\n THE FOUNDING<\/span> OF THE SOCIETY\n <\/span>\n <\/h2>\n

Inspired by the Senior Golfer\u2019s Society of Great Britain,\nMessrs. Cochrane, J.L. Sime, Savage Bailey, Arthur Flowerdew and others,\nresolved at a meeting held in Kuala Lumpur on 5th May, 1931, to form a Senior\nGolfers\u2019 Society of Malaya, The age limit was 50. though it was later modified\nto 48

At this inaugural meeting,\nC.W.H. Cochrane was elected President, Brown, Vice President and Twiss the\nfirst Honorary Secretary and Treasurer. This committee was empowered to frame\nsimple rules and to invite membership. Fifty-three eligible golfers from all\nover Malaya responded to the invitation before the 30thJune, 1931, and became\nknown as \u201cFounder Members\u201d.

The Society\u2019s colours, embracing the colours of the former\nFederated Malay States were red, yellow, white and black. Membership covered\nthe whole of Malaya, although there was little evidence of activity outside Selangor.\nIn Selangor, matches were the \u201cLadies\u201d, \u201cBankers, Brokers and Accountants\u201d, \u201cDignity,\nLaw and Order\u201d and the Royal Selangor Golf Club.

The annual re-union usually took two days and included the\nA.G.M. There was a match on this occasion as well as competitions for the\nBailey Cup. the Ross Baffy and Flowerdew Trophy. In 1942. The Pacific War\nintervened; however an A.G.M. was held in Changi Prison, and attendance is said\nto have surpassed all records.

The first Constitution and Rules were formulated in 1931.\nThese simple Rules, with minor amendments, continued in use for fifty years and\nmore \n <\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

From the 1980s till the present, a secretariat was established to manage the society. This secretariat is headed by the President and the Council Members as well as Professionals to run and manage the day to day activities of The Society.
\n
SGSM is a registered society under the purview of the Commissioner of Sports, Malaysia. SGSM is also a member of CASGA (\u200bConfederation\nof Asean Senior Golfers Association).
\n
Currently, SGSM has more than 3,800 members.
