Established in 1931, the Senior Golfers’ Society of Malaysia (SGSM) has a proud history of bringing together senior golfers through a shared passion for golf, friendship and fellowship. The Society was officially registered under the Commissioner of Sports Malaysia on 5 July 2006. Today, SGSM has grown to more than 3,000 members, including former Chief Secretaries to the Government, former Chief Justices, Cabinet Ministers, senior government officials, corporate leaders and prominent personalities.Beyond Malaysia, SGSM is a member of the Confederation of ASEAN Senior Golfers’ Associations (CASGA), comprising Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, Singapore and the Philippines. Through CASGA, members have opportunities to connect with fellow senior golfers across the region through the annual CASGA ASEAN Senior Amateur Open Golf Championship, hosted on a rotational basis among member countries.Through its local and regional connections, SGSM continues to strengthen the spirit of friendship, fellowship and camaraderie among senior golfers.
Beyond its regular competitions, SGSM offers members a range of privileges and opportunities to make the most of their leisure time. Members can enjoy special senior rates at more than 80 golf clubs nationwide, with SGSM continually expanding its network to provide even more golfing opportunities. More than access to the greens, these privileges allow members to meet fellow senior golfers, build friendships and enjoy the camaraderie that comes with a shared passion for the game. Looking ahead, SGSM is also working towards introducing “Senior Day” in collaboration with golf clubs across the country, with one day each month dedicated to senior golfers at special rates.SGSM will continue to explore new activities, partnerships and privileges that enhance the membership experience and bring greater value to its growing community.
At the heart of Bukit Kiara, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, stands SGSM’s three-storey building — a lasting symbol of the Society’s growth and perseverance. After four years of construction, the building was officially opened in 2016, marking a significant milestone in SGSM’s history. The journey began in 1991 and was far from easy, with securing the necessary funding presenting a major challenge. Through the support of Council Members and a dedicated fundraising golf tournament, SGSM was able to bring the vision to life. Today, the building provides a welcoming space for members, featuring meeting rooms, a reading and recreation room, and separate surau facilities for men and women, alongside other essential amenities. SGSM extends its sincere appreciation to Datuk Seri Ruslin Hasan, former Vice President of SGSM and former Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, for his unwavering support and assistance throughout the journey. More than a physical space, the building stands as a testament to the commitment, unity and determination of those who helped shape SGSM into the Society it is today.
